The Slow Food Movement was founded in Rome in 1986 when a McDonald's
was established on Piazza di Spagna. The founders wanted to preserve both
individual and diverse taste. They also wanted to respect and savour the
traditional tastes of their country.
We are joined together by these Slow Food principles:
-
to protect life's smaller pleasures and a human rhythm of
life
-
to oppose the oversimplification of dining
-
to remind us that enjoying food and drink has always been
a part of our own culture
-
to support ecologically sensible methods of food production
and quality ingredients
-
to oppose unnecessary chemical and technological treatment
of food
-
to cherish local and traditional means of cooking
Slow Food Finland was founded in 1993 and Helsinki, Klaukkala,
Oulu, Tampere, Tuusula, Turku and Uusikaupunki have their own convivia.
All Slow Food activities are open to non-members. If you want to join one
of our meetings as a foreigner, you are welcome. This way you'll have an
excellent chance to get to know Finland's bon vivant gastronomy. For more
detailed information about Slow Food Finland's activities, contact Pentti
Arvela.
The International Slow
Food Movement pages have abundant amounts of information
and recipes in English.
