  • The headmaster of the school is English but he pronounces "dormitory" like an American (he includes the second O). - Photon
  • A giant Cerebus drools a huge glob of sticky drool onto Ron's shoulder. Then he jumps through the trap door and when he lands, his shoulder is clean. - Photon
  • When Harry is looking at the mirror, and he sees his parents, you can see the reflection of a video camera in the mirror. (Theatre) - Ahmed Mashhood
  • When Hagrid and Harry are in the bank collecting Harry's money, Hagrid hands an envelope to one of the goblins. When he pulls the envelope out of his pocket it is flat then it is crumpled then it is flat and so on... (DVD) - fat spark kev

  • During the chess match, I can think of three ways off the back how Harry could have gotten around. (DVD) - elvega
  • During the chessmatch Ron get's blown off his horse and lands on the floor, a piece of debris hits him in the face making a gash on his cheek right under his eye pushing his head back... didn't look fake to me!
  • All through the movie Harry's eyes kept changing from green to blue.. I guess it might have been the light.. but it was kinda strange. (DVD) - krazynsweet539
  • When Flint kocks out Wood by sending a Bludger towards him. In the 3rd book, something like that happens and Madame Hootch says "You don't attack the Keeper unless the Quaffle is in the goal area." and she awards a penalty to Gryffindor. When Flint sent a Bludger to Wood, the Quaffle was out of the goal zone (Wood having just blocked a shot). Is this a new rule in the 3rd book? - El_Barto
  • During the Quidditch match when the Griffindor keeper (Oliver Wood) get knocked off his broom stick he falls onto sand. Earlier in the movie they show the whole Quidditch feild and there is no sand anywhere on it. - JoJo
  • At the beginning when Harry begins getting all the letters, his uncle nails a bored to the door. As you can see the bored is placed on tilted slightly to the right but when the mail starts flying around the house, you can see that the wood flies off but notice then it is tilted slighty to the left at that time. (DVD) - Sarah
  • In the scene with Norbert, Hagid pets him without his pot mittens. Next scene he has both of them on!! (DVD) - Justin
  • When spoilt rotten cousin Dudley is complaining about the number of birthday presents he got, his mouth doesn't match with what Dudley is yelling, bad dubbing. - Glorianne Brentleigh
  • When Hagred takes out the letter that the head Wizard Professer Dumbldor has given him for the sorcers stone at the Bank, it is all crinkled up when he gives it to the gremlin but whne the next scene shows the gremlin reaching for the letter it looks like its brand new! what's up with that?!?! - Desiree
  • When Harry discovers the magic mirror, he looks to his left and says "Dad?" when his Dad is on his right. (Theatre) - Yatmandu
  • When Percy is telling the first years where their rooms are at, he states that the boys are "up the stairs and to the left, girls the same but to the right". After meeting fluffy for the first time, Hermione goes to the left and the boys to the right. - JTeam

  • When Hagrid is talking about when Harry's parents were killed and they show it, the baby Harry is wearing a Blues Clues romper suit! I don't recall Blue's Clues being around in the eighties. :) - danradfan10
  • There is a goof that I have noticed after watching the movie 70 times (not counting the three times in the theater). When Ron (rupert grint) walks up & sits down. Professor McGonagall (Maggie Smith) puts the hat on him, you can tell that she's a little nervous about handling it & when it suddenly turns around & says 'ha!' Ron jumps & so does she. (DVD) - Pink_Dragon
  • (Continuity) When Harry, Ron and Hermione are going to Hagrids cottage, Hermione starts off with a bag, then she doesn't have it, then she has, then she hasn't then she has again! (DVD) - Lexa
  • (Plot holes) When Harry, Ron and Hermione are telling Hagrid that they think Snape is going to steal the stone, he says "Snape's helping to guard the stone, he wouldn't steal it." However, since the directors took Snape's potion logic puzzle out of the movie, Snape actually ISN'T helping to guard the stone. (Theatre) - Pints
  • (Plot holes) When it's Christmas and Harry goes onto the balcony thing, he sees Ron in the common room at the tree and then rushes down to the common room when he realizes he got presents. But, in all of the books their presents show up at the foot of their beds in the dormitory. Not the Gryffindor Common Room! - Vllybll4chic
  • (Continuity) In the movie, I noticed in several places that Harry's eyebrows were sometimes plucked and then unplucked. At one point a change seemed to happen over 3 minutes. - Jo
  • (Continuity) In Potion's Class, Harry is writing in his note book in words Professor Snape was saying. Harry was using only half the page to write on. But when the camera angle changes, Harry's writing takes the hole page! - FrenchShepherd
  • (Audio/visual unsynchronised) The scene where Ron and Harry try to warn Hermione about the troll, Ron casts a spell on the troll. When his club drops, you can't hear it land, but when Harry drops, you can hear it very well! (DVD) - jaime

Commented Goofs

  • Around the beginning of the movie, there are several cars shown. The setting is Surrey, England, so it would be reasonable for the cars to represent cars common in Britain, but they all look very American. - Photon
    • Comment: The setting IS England, the entire movie was filmed there. American car companies sell to other countries, just as German, Japanese, and other car companies do. - Moonshadow
      • Addition: I Live in the UK and Moonshadow is for the most part wrong for example Chrysler turned up here for the first time 5 years ago and have only released the neon the jeep and the people carrier (Voyager I think ??) our FORD is actually called Ford europe and all are cars are diffrent (apart from the ford cougar which is identical to your mercury cougar) and GM are known as Vauxhall and again all the cars are diffrent except the caddilac which we call an OMEGA but has a diffrent front grill and a smaller engine (3.2 non charger). - Ice_coffee
  • During magic practice, a boy is trying to change water to rum. He can't see into the cup from his seat. After the spell, he looks into the cup and is disappointed by the results. Light rum is indistinguishable from water by sight, and even if he intended to make dark rum, since the spell had not yet been successful, it would not make sense to assume the spell could not have worked partway and made light rum. - Photon
    • Comment: It's at lunch, not magic practice, and do all eleven year old kids know that light rum is identical to water? I personally wouldn't know that, and I'm considerably older than any of those kids at the table. - Moonshadow
  • After the Voldemort fight, Harry gets many scratches and bumps. In the hospital scene with Dumbledore, they are gone. When Harry meets Ron & Hermione, they appear even worse. - jma826
    • Comment: About the bruises looking worse, bruises are like that when treated, especially if they were deep and affected a large area. - grasha
  • In the end during the feast, 50 points are given to Miss. Hermione Granger for her good intellegence, under the trap door. But that part where she uses her intellengence (according to the book) between the chess game and when Harry meets Prof. Quirrel (Voldemort) is not shown in the movie. A person who has read the book can only know the reasons for the 50 points. (Theatre) - AniLimo
    • Comment: Where they say that Hermonie is awarded 50 points it could be her knowledge about that plant thing that was going to eat them. She told them to relax and what kind of plant it was and all of this stuff about it. - Lina Emmalakis
  • During the Quidditch Match, Oliver Wood (Sean Biggerstaff) gets knocked out by a Slytherin Player. He falls face down to the sand, and is never heard of again. In the end he is seen clapping because of the extra points given to Harry and friends. What happened to him and how did he get better? (DVD) - Nikki
    • Comment: First of all, how is this a goof? Is it a requirement for every thing that happens to every single character to be shown in the movie? Oliver was fine after a little witch's medicine, we can assume this because the game was never stopped. Any school activity would be brought to an end immediately if a student was seriously injured. In fact he played in several Quidditch matches after that one according to the novel, they just chose not to show that in the movie. The movie was centered around the activities of Harry Potter and his friends, not Oliver Wood. - BLOTT
  • On the note that Harry recieves it say "and if you desire you can bring a cat, an owl, or toad. On the train, Ron has a rat named Scabbers. The note never says anythig about bringing a rat. (DVD) - elvega
    • Comment: Elvega, True. Now for some background and hopefully some clarification: Ron aquired Scabbers from his older brother Percy because Percy was given a new owl for becoming prefect (A hand me down rat... I like that...) =) The note DOES in fact say: "if you desire you can bring a cat, an owl, or a toad" however, it does NOT state that they can ONLY bring a cat, an owl or a toad and since his older brothers (as well as Scabbers himself) had attended Hogwarts previously, (Strike that, correction... it is assumed that his whole family have attended Hogwarts except for his Mothers second cousin to whome is an accountant muggle) one would think that the Weasleys would know the guidelines as to what can and cannot be brought at this point. I hope that helps to explain things a little and maybe ease your mind a bit.
Honestly though and on a side note, read the books... It's interesting to find out all of the little tid bits that are left out of a movie for length purposes. =) Happy hunting! (DVD) ~With a little book on the side for background purposes) - Shanna / Nanapooky
  • In the scene where Harry and Ron are late for Prof. McGonogall's lesson, she changes from a cat to herself. When she first changes, she does not have her glasses on but when the camera changes angles she is wearing them. However, I suppose one can assume they have magically appeared, which can be the excuse for quite a few mistakes in this movie! - Laura
    • Comment: Actually, if you look close enough or playy it back in slow motion, you can plainly see that she is wearing her glasses. - jo
  • When Oliver Wood is teaching Harry how to play Quidditch, and he takes out the Golden Snitch, Harry holds it in his hand. Then, its wings pop out and it darts around Harry's head. Both Wood and Harry follow the Snitch's movements with their heads. The only trouble is, Wood is looking in a completely different direction to where the Snitch is. - rory
    • Comment: The whole point of how Harry was selected for the team was the fact that he could see such a small item moving so quickly (the flying remembering orb that Malfoy throws). So there for it would make sence if Wood couldn't see the Snitch and was looking around for it as if he were "retarded" and Harry could see it as plain as day. - PC_Tech02

Corrected Goofs

  • When all the first years arrive at Hogwarts and first got into the dining hall all of the seats were filled but yet when the first years went to sit down after being sorted into their houses there was room for them to sit. - Bajanangel
    • Correction: Actully, Bajanangel, When they first go into the dining hall, there IS room for them, you can clearly see that when the camera zooms down with them. - Var
  • When Hermine is walking through the Hogwarts "dining room" she tells Harry and his friend about the floating candles on the ceiling, but when she tells them where she learned it from she says "I heard about it in the Hogwarts....a history" I think she needed to practice her lines a little better. (Theatre) - bry22
    • Correction: Her line is "I read about it in 'Hogwart's, A History'". Since there is a comma in the title of the book, she properly inserts a pause. - bombadil
      • Comment: I agree that the pause is probably due to the comma in the title. However, she does raise the tone in her voice at the end of "Hogwarts" as though she were posing a question rather than stating a title and then (more than likely due to her accent) it does indeed sound a bit like she stammers on the "a" in "a history" but again, it's quite possible this is due to her accent and precise pronunciation. - Shanna / Nanapooky
    • Correction: Hermione was not discussing the floating candles, she was discussing the ceiling as bewitched to look like the night sky. - grasha
  • During the quiddich match, when the chaser scores for the second time, the keeper is a girl. In the 2nd book, they mention briefly that there are no girls on the quiddich team. If you don't believe me, check it yourself. It's when Flint storms onto the field with the Slytherin team. - virtualdemon1
    • Correction: He said there weren't any girls on the Slytherin team. (DVD) - ariel
    • Correction: I hate to do this but since we are including the books here:
'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' J.K. Rowling (First book) Chapter 11, Quiddich. (usually pg. 185 and 186 on hard back)

      (185 top of pg)
Wood cleared his throat for silence.
      "Okay, men," he said.
"and women" said chaser Angelina Johnson
"And women," Wood agreed. "This is it."
(bottom of pg. 185 to pg. 186)
Fifteen brooms rose up, high, high into the air. They were off.
"And the quaffle is taken immediately by Angelina Johnson of Gryffindor - what an excellent Chaser that girl is, and rather attractive, too -"
      "JORDAN!"
      "Sorry, professor."
The Weasley twins' friend, Lee Jordan, was doing the commentary for the match, closely watched by Professor McGonagall.
"And she's really belting along up there, a neat pass to Alicia Spinnet, a good find of Oliver Wood's, last year only a reserve - back to Johnson and......"
      ~Further down the same paragraph~
"...... -that's Chaser Katie Bell of Gryffindor there, nice dive around flint, off up the field and - OUCH - that must have hurt, hit in the back of the head by a buldger - Quaffle taken by Slytherins..."

Now, there may not be any girls on the team in the next year (or perhaps they were refering to only Slytherins. However, this was not specified in your find.) but since the movie ends at the end of their first year (as well as in the books) and the second book is the second year (as will the second movie be) I'm not sure that it is safe to say there are no girls on the Quiddich team because... well, first of all a new year could mean some team changes and second there are women players in the 1st book in which this movie takes place anyway. =) Sorry though.. =) (DVD) ~With a little book on the side for background purposes) - Shanna / Nanapooky

  • During the chess game, Ron supposedly sacrifices himself, but the queen's sword never touches him. (DVD) - elvega
    • Correction: The Sword never stabs Ron because the sword gets stabed into the horse not him. - harry potter wizard
  • I've only seen the movie twice but both times, I noticed this goof that was pretty funny and stupid looking. When that guy Oliver Wood(?) is teaching Harry about that flying game, he starts showing him the little golden flying ball. (Everything has freaking goofy names in this movie!) While Harry is holding the golden ball, it sprouts wings and starts flying. If you look at Oliver the whole time, you will notice that he is looking around as if he was retarded because the golden ball is flying in the opposite direction that he is looking! But Harry is looking right at it at every turn. I'm guessing the reason that Oliver is not looking at the ball and Harry is, is because they probably didn't rehearse which way the ball would fly. So they decided to add the golden ball into the movie following the looks that Harry is giving it since he is the main character. (PPV) - stevo
    • Correction: The reason Oliver Wood (Sean Biggerstaff) is looking around like an idiot, is because, as he stated just before, the golden snitch is "wicked fast and 'darn' near impossible to see." Therefore, Oliver Wood was ATTEMPTING to see it by looking around "like a retard", while Harry, however, could follow it. That's why he's the seeker. (PPV) - Mallory
