  • After Darth Vader kills Ben, there's a shot from the docking bay towards him. They forgot to colour in his lightsaber. - Da King
    • Also Ben's saber is seen uncolored, before the duel.
      • Comment: Star Wars Insider talks about how Sith (which Vader is one of) use a red crystal which can overload a jedi's saber. I think they also said Obi-Wan's saber was on the verge of collapsing from this. - Barvaze

Darth, prepare to be spanked by this stick!

You can't win Darth,
if you strike me down I shall... uh, I seem to have run out of batteries..
  • When everyone is getting in fighters for the final battle, they all have white helmets with blue insignias. However, they aren't wearing them when they're flying. - Da King
  • When Obi-wan and Luke are watching the hologram of Princess Leia projected onto a small table, the objects on the table change position and number in each shot. - Da King
  • When Luke and his uncle buy C-3PO and a white-and-red R5-D4 robot from the Jawas, the R5 unit blows up after traveling a few feet. There's a quick shot of R2-D2 back at the Jawa's transporter, and behind it you can see the same white-and-red R5-D4 unit being set up by the Jawas. - Da King
  • Just after the scene where R2-D2 is riding shotgun on Luke's X-Wing fighter and is hit by a shot from Darth Vader, there's a shot of C-3PO standing beside Leia in the rebel HQ, and the dent on C-3PO's head is on the right side (it's on the left side throughout the rest of the movie). - Da King
  • If you watch in slow-mo right before Han Solo shoots the bounty hunter named Greedo, you can see that Greedo has been replaced with a faker looking goofy dummy just before he explodes. - Da King
  • When Luke is eating with his uncle and aunt, the cup he's drinking from keeps switching hands. (Due to the negative being reversed in post production.) - Da King
  • If you watch Leia while they're in the garbage compactor, her belt, at various points, has fallen down around her thigh. It moves from her thigh to her waist (depending on the camera angle) during the whole scene. - Da King
  • You can see the arm of the crane used to lower the torture device through the door when it is going into Leia's room. - Da King
  • On the Jawa's transporter, when R2 looks around in one of the shots, you can very clearly see the person (Kenny Baker) who is inside R2 through his little eye hole. - Da King
  • When Vader and Tarkin learn that Leia has lied about the location of the Rebel base, we hear Darth say "I told you she would never consciously betray the rebellion." There is a pause and Vader continues to move. An obvious dubbing error. - Da King
  • When the Millennium Falcon lands on the forest moon, and everyone is 'bussed' into the facility, Han Solo gets out of the cart and his blaster and holster is on his left side. He's right handed and everywhere else in the movie, its on his right side correctly. - Da King
  • In Ep. 4 when Leah won't tell Tarkin where the Rebel Base is you can see drool drop out of his mouth. Ewwwwww! Kinda funny!! - Da Queen (Cerasi)
  • Right after Boba Fett's rocket missfires and sends him flying through the air, Luke jumps on to a skiff (the Hoover thingys) and kicks one of Jabba's henchman but misses big time by like 5 inches! The Phantom Kick! - Cerasi
  • Tripple Goof!! When Leia says "This is some rescue" a lock of hair is out of her bun, but in the next shot it's back in. & In that same scene she blasts a hole in the garbage shoot and Chewie runs over and puts his foot on it. Then Han shoots down the hall, and wow dejah vous, Chewie does it all over again. & when Han jumps in, his foot hits the alleged metal, yet it jiggles! Wow all those in one scene!! - Cerasi
  • In ep. 6 when Luke is telling C-3P0 to tell the Ewolks if they don't free "our heros" he'll use magic, you can see R2-D2 untied even though he has not been freed. - Cerasi
  • When Vader is walking down the shuttle craft that landed on the landing pad on Endor his head magically passes through the top of the shuttle. - Cerasi
  • Some time before R2-D2 plays the hologram of Luke, the film is being rewind. You can see Jabba's smoke from his pipe going down, and the bubbles too. - Cerasi
  • In ep 6, Leia & Luke went after the troopers and the camera goes to Han. In the bottom right you can see the trooper Han was trying to ambush... standing around waiting for his cue to run back in the scene!! - Cerasi
  • In the garage, C-3PO is wiping himself off after his oil bath. In one shot, he's holding a rag; cut to different angle, the rag disappears; back to the original angle, the rag's back. - tps
  • In the Death Star battle, Biggs and Porkins (Red Three and Red Six) go in for a run. Porkins, Red Six, get hit and blows up. Yet a moment later, when Luke is being chased by a TIE and gets grazed, and the others are trying to locate him to help, one pilot says "Red Six, can you see Red Five?" And Red Six, supposedly dead, replies "A heavy fire zone on this side, Red Five, where are you?" - The Sneak
  • Red Leader's lip mike keeps moving around. Sometimes it's under his chin strap on the left side. Sometimes it's on the left outside the chin strap. Once or twice its even on the right. - The Sneak
  • During the scene when the princess and Luke are at the bridge and they are about to cross the princess shoots her laser at a stormtrooper above and watch the laser and it travels downwards. Real obvious. - khobb
  • Obvious dummy when Greedo explodes. - The Big J
  • In Star Wars, C3PO claims he's not much of a story teller he is merely an interpreter. By Return of the Jedi he has become very adept at being a story teller evidenced by the hundreds of Ewoks listening to his adventures complete with sound effects. - judge smells
  • In the scene where Han and Luke and Obi-Wan are in the Millenium Falcon in the background there is a stagehand wearing green he is on camera for a second then he walks out of the way. - Dan
  • In the first half of the film Leia's accent switches between upper class English and Carrie Fishers normal accent in various scenes. - Dr Mick
  • When Han and Luke are standing in front of an elevator and they are dressed as storm troopers, you can see a black droid walk by and if you look close enough you can see his/her eyes. (VHS) - gl_bustr
  • In the original 1977 cut, one of the scenes when Darth Vader is walking with the storm troopers down a corridor.. watch closely as one of the troopers on the right bangs his head on an overhang in the tunnel. George Lucas must have noticed this after a while, because it is not visible in the Special Edition of the film. - Chuck
  • I'm not sure if this shows up in the Special Edition widescreen VHS version, but there's a commonly used photograph of the interior of OB1's hut with a bad error. While Luke, C-3PO, and R2 are speaking with OB1, actor Anthony Daniels is missing the hand of his C-3PO costume, and his human hand can clearly be seen. (Theatre) - MarkD
  • When Luke, Han, and Chewie, R2D2 and C-3PO are in the Death Star, Luke discovers that princess Leia is scheduled to be terminated. While plotting their strategy, Luke goes to put the Binders on Chewbacca, in which Chewie protests. Look carefully (in slow motion) at Chewie's mouth. You can see the nose and mouth of the actor inside PERFECTLY when he rears his head back and growls! - Mike
  • When Tarkin (Peter Cushing) blows up Princess Leia's home planet of Alderaan, he clearly calls it Alderland. - B
  • In the scene when Ben Kenobi is shutting down the tractor beam, draws the attention of the Storm Troopers elsewhere and gets into the elevator, his hood is off. When he battles Darth Vader you can clearly see that Ben's hood is on! I want a hood that can move by it's self! (Theatre) - Peter Naughton
    • Maybe he put the hood on in the elevator. Maybe he used the force to pull the hood up.
  • When Luke sees the projection that R-2 is showing, there is a hose on the left of the projection. When you get a shot from another angle you can clearly see that the hose has moved to the left of the projection. Not only that, but everything that was on the left of the projection has moved to the right! The hose is alive! Note: This was probably caused because of post production. (Theatre) - Peter Naughton

Commented Goofs

  • The first time Chewie gets into the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon, he hits his head on a small set of dice. - Da King
    • Comment: Ever played the Star Wars customizable card game? Well, there's an interrupt card in there called "Han's Dice". It shows a picture of those very dice that you speak of. - Cren
  • [Special Edition] In the scene where Luke and Leia swings across the missing bridge, a number of the shots fired by Leia are "bangs" instead of the laser "zap" sound. The bang is probably from the prop gun used (it shot blanks) and was never dubbed over. - Da King
    • Comment: It is possible that those blaster bolts hit different surfaces and resulted in a different sound. Or is could just be bad post-production. - Brendan Cook

  • When C-3PO & R2-D2 are in the control room (or something like it) the stormtroopers storm in and one so graceful and professionally hits his head on the door with a ~thunk~ and tweaks his helmet. - Cerasi
    • Comment: Storm Trooper hitting his head: Not really a goof, even the best trained soldiers make mistakes in the real world. Case in point: Friendly-fire deaths. - Brendan Cook
      • However, I don't think it was written in the script that one of the stormtroopers hits his head.
  • In the cantina, when Han Solo is talking to Luke and Obi-wan, he says he "made the 'Kessel' run in less than xxxx parsecs." He is referring to parsecs as a measurement of time. A parsec is a measure of distance, just like a light-year. - Da King
    • Correction: Han is referring to making the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs. The reason he uses a unit of distance rather than time is that is what matters in this case. The Kessel system has a large cluster of black holes in it, called The Maw. The closer you get, the greater the chance of getting sucked into one black hole or another. Going within 12 parsecs of the center of The Maw cluster is practically suicidal, but allowed Han to escape Imperial ships and do closer (thus faster) than anyone had ever done. - Brendan Cook
    • Comment: On the subject of the Kessel run, when Han Solo said he made the run in less than 12 parsecs, it does not mean 12 parsecs from the center of the Maw. He means instead of making a wider berth around the maw, in which he would have to travel 14 (or whatever) more parsecs, he went closer to the maw, therefore shortening his distance. Think of it as a race track; traveling around the inside lane is shorter than the outside lane. - manix
  • Why do the Stormtroopers wear so much cumbersome armour if a single shot can take them out? - Da King
    • Comment: They don't all die, the armor acts like bullet proof vests do it protects you if from far away, but doesn't do much good if you are at close range and when you get shot with a bullet proof vest on it hurts and you get the air knocked out of you. Many people think the bullet went through the vest until they take it off so just because they fall down doesn't mean they are dead and remember the opening scene of Star Wars? The stormtroopers were checking their comrades to see if they were dead or not. - Wes

  • In a galaxy of such technological advancements, wouldn't the gunners have guessed that an escape pod without human life forms aboard would nevertheless be capable of carrying information dangerous to the Empire? After all, they weren't on a tight budget! I'm sure that Darth Vader wouldn't mind the risk of wasting a single laser bolt, especially when so much trouble might have been avoided. - Da King
    • Correction: Oh comm-on! Please! George didn't have Darth Vader blow the pod to bits because he needed a way for R2-D2 & C-3PO to get to Tattoin and deliver the message to Obi-Wan! If he did it would be a very short movie. - Cerasi (Da Queen)
    • Comment: Actually, it's even easier than that! The Empire was looking to recover stolen data tapes which had been stolen by non-droids and given to the princess. Also the officer in charge tells the gunnery officer to let it go as it was probably a malfunction (due to the damage caused in getting the Princess' corvette to stop), but to track it. Droids are rarely used as spies unless they are purpose built models. - Brendan Cook
  • Oola (his dancer) is trying to get away from Jabba, and just a split second before Jabba hits the button and she falls, the top part of her costume falls off and her breast can be seen for a moment or two. Look closely because it's very hard to see. - Cerasi
    • Comment: This is a reach as a goof. Chalk it up to unintended realism. In a skimpy costume like that, bouncing around, dancing and struggling as she was, isn't it plausible for a breast to pop free of her tiny top? - Brendan Cook
    • Comment: First of all, they are correct about the scene with the dancer and Jabba. Her breast does pop out. If you watch the T.V. version, they cut part of that scene out. But when you watch the actual video, you clearly see a bit more of the dancer than you expected too. (VHS) - wimpy
  • When Leia gets hit, Han goes to get her out of the line of fire. Right?? Well in doing so he grabs her breast! - Cerasi
    • Comment: Hey, if the lady I loved was about to get creamed by a bunch of Imperial troopers, I'd grab whatever I could to get her out of the way!! - Brendan Cook
  • Obi-Wan says in Episode 4 that The blast points were too accurate for sandpeople and that only Stormtroopers were so precise. But in Episode 1, The Sandpeople hit the Podracers whizzing by at 600 mph every shot! And in Episodes 4-6, the Stormtroopers can't hit anything! - Bob
    • Comment: I think what he means is too accurate in a tactical sense, i.e. the shots were too well calculated to disable the transporter before it could call for help or some thing.(DVD) - Tallon Trooper
  • Maybe not a real goof, but a little disturbing: (Warning: Spoiler if You haven't seen the movies!)
In Episode IV Obi-Wan says something like: "You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine!" Well, how does he show that immense power? Only by giving Luke a few good advises from time to time.
Furthermore, in a scene earlier in the movie Darth Vader states that the Death Star is nothing compared to the power of the Force. How does he prove that? By some magic tricks when he chokes officers or fights Luke man to man. Hardly more impressive than the powers of the Death Star. Despite their allegedly great powers, Vader and the Emperor are easily defeated together with their entire fleet at the end of Episode VI. Obviously, the Force has no real importance in the Star Wars saga. - Olav Westerman
    • Comment: Olav, Vader was absolutely right when he said the force was more powerful than the death star. In the end How was the death star destroyed? That's right. By Luke using "The Force". Therefore, by simple logic, the force is more powerful than the death star. You said yourself that he and his fleet were easily defeated, which also means that the light side of the force was more powerful than the dark side. He wasn't talking about himself when he said that, he was talking about luke and Obi. Since were on that subject, Obi Wan *did* become more powerful after he was killed because he was able to convince luke to not use his navigation computer and let the force guide the shot that destroyed the death star. Obviously the force is very very very important in the star wars saga, because it is what guides all of the characters actions. Please, think about your thoughts before you post them. - queeneve
  • Anyone who has ever tried to ride a bicycle (or even a motorcycle) in the sand knows that R2-D2 wouldn't have made it 5 feet from the escape pod. - Da King
    • Comment: Not really a goof. In the first shot we see R2-D2 quite clearly moving across the sand dunes with no effects used. In other shots Lucas used sand-colored skis to help him move better because the weight of Baker in the droid was probably making it hard to move at the necessary speed. However, in the story R2 is actually extremely light in weight and his weight is well spread over his tri-pod legs. His wheels could also perhaps be designed in a way that might overcome some of these limitations allowing him to move slowly over the surface. The Star Wars novelisation does acknowledge the difficulty encountered by both droids in this scene - "neither robot had been designed for pedal locomotion on this kind of terrain, so they had to fight their way across the unstable surface." - Clonetrooper1000

Corrected Goofs

  • After Luke destroys the Death Star and is getting out of his fighter, Leia runs over and he shouts "Carrie!" instead of Leia. - Da King
    • Correction: From the Internet Movie Database: "Sound designer Ben Burtt has confirmed that, after extensive listening, it appears to be "Hey" or "Yay"; Mark Hamill reports that he said, "Hey! There she is!" but mumbled the last word."
  • At the start, when the Princess' ship is attacked, C3PO says to the effect that "the princess won't escape this time." Later, when Luke cleans up R2-D2 and accidentally plays the holographic from Leia, C3PO says he has no idea who it is. - Da King
    • Correction: There is nothing in a protocol droids programming that requires it to be completely honest. - Brendan Cook
    • Correction: 3PO May have known about the princess but never actually seen her or knew who she was. - Mathia
  • When Luke and R2 are doing the trench run, a tie shots at Luke and blows the top of R2's head off. But in the next scene R2's top is on again. - Da King
    • Correction: The shot actually hit only the right rear portion of his dome and blows one of his small blue panels up. Since his head can rotate, there is guarantee that we will see that part of his head in the next shot. - Brendan Cook
  • In the Rebel base, as the pilots are briefed for the battle, the Death star plans are displayed on a screen. The goof is that the plans displayed show the superlaser dish in the middle of the death star, along the equator. However, the shots of the real Death star clearly show the superlaser dish in the top half, in the upper hemisphere. Not very accurate for blueprints, eh?
    • Correction: This is a common misconception. The great big round thing at the equator of the Death Star Blueprints is not it's Superlaser, but is it's main Sub-Light Drive system, which has to be as near as possible to the centerline of the ship to avoid tumbling. - Jay

Explained Goofs

  • When the rebels are heading to blow up the Death Star, pay attention to the code names - I think it's Gold 5. He asks everyone if they're ready, and one pilot replies "yes, Gold Leader", which is not his title. - Da King
    • Explanation: Gold Leader was killed. The next up had to have been Gold 5. - Cren
  • When the Falcon does a complete loop in flight why don't all the occupants end up on the roof ???? I have never seen any sort of restraint or harness in the pilots seats. - Jack
    • Explanation: The reason is that the Falcon, as all other spaceships in the story have their own artificial gravity-field. People always walk on the floor, no matter what movements the ships do. - Olav Westerman
